Last Day Shenanigans, it's not over until the fat lady sings.

I heard Brendan Rogers concede the title after the 3-3 draw at Selhurst Park. Mind games? Most football commentators seem to go along with this after all City followed this result with a 4-0 win at home to Crystal Palace. Do these football managers really believe we fall for their statements that they receive credit as being masters of the mind games.

City have only to draw to win the title with their superior goal difference and Liverpool to have any chance, have to win at Newcastle by a near impossible scoreline and hope City lose. Can Man City lose and we see a shock score at Anfield to put Peru vs Argentina circa 1978 World Cup put in the shade? By the way Argentina won 6-0 a most improbable and subsequently disputed result, but a result none the same.

History shows strange results have happened on the final day. Two years ago plucky QPR took City to the wire and only a last minute goal by Sergio Aguero secured City their first league title since the sixties. Remember Liverpool and Arsenal 1989? The fateful year of the Hillsbrough disaster.

The match famously immortalized in Nick Hornsby's book "Fever Pitch"  presented the gunners with the near insurmountable task of going to fortress Anfield and of winning by two clear goals to win. This against one of Liverpool's finest teams, Barnes, Beardsley, Aldridge et al. They did. The image of Michael Thomas slotting the ball past a despairing Grobelaaer and rolling over on his head in celebration has been played over and over for years.

Ipswich Town famously blew two league titles in the early 1980s and Manchester United had a missed chance in 1995 when West Ham stood in their way and denied them when a point would have been enough to deny Blackburn.

So Brendan, spear us the soundbites or the amateur mind games. History says there is a twist. A twist we shall get, pressure does the strangest things. You should know, Liverpool vs Norwich was the sign of things to come.

It is "Big Sam" Allardyce of West Ham formerly of Newcastle again who stand in the way of City's title aspirations as surely Liverpool will beat Newcastle managed by Alan Pardew formerly of West Ham. I have more faith that West Ham will put a spanner in the works than I do Newcastle stopping Liverpool.

The 2013/14 season has been one for the ages, history however says it is not over until the fat lady sings and the fat lady with one match to go is about to give another performance to savor. Liverpool to win the title in dramatic circumstances to honour the fans lost 25 years ago, would be as dramatic as this season could get.

Let the last day shenanigans begin.
